This idea stems from the idea that the wound in itself cannot be the hindering factor, it must be something else. There is now abundant knowledge on what these hindering or impeding factor can be (chronic inflammation, infection, microbes, maceration, dehydration to name a few).

The choice of the right dressing can be challenging at times. This might be because the wound healing process is dynamic.
