SILVERCEL™ Non-Adherent Dressing
Overview
SILVERCEL™ Non-Adherent Hydro-Alginate Dressing is designed to absorb and retain exudate, whilst allowing intact and atraumatic removal from the wound bed. The silver ions within the dressing protect the wound from bacterial contamination, whilst simultaneously managing the reduction of odour
Infection delays healing
Characteristics of an infected wound:
- High levels of bacteria and exudate
- High levels of inflammatory cytokines
- Rednes, pain and swelling
Once infection is eliminated, healing can begin:
- Reduced levels of exudate
- Reduced redness, pain and swelling
- Granulation tissue formation
With some dessings, removal can cause trauma.
With easy, one-piece removal, trauma can be reduced69:
- Less impact on newly-formed tissue
- Minimised discomfort for patient
Characteristics of wound bed trauma:
- Fibres, residue from a dressing that falls apart
- Damage to granulation tissue
- Patient pain caused by dressing changes
The Unique Solution
The strength and absorbency of silver alginate with a non-adherent layer. Uniquely designed to leave nothing behind but a clean wound environment.
Silver alginate inner layer:
- releases silver ions into wound fluid for up to 7 days in vitro70
- stays strong for intact removal, even when wet70
Unique, non-adherent outer layers:
- optimal spacing allows the free low of exudate into the dressing
- conforms to the wound bed for complete coverage when moist
- easy, one-piece dressing removal even as exudate levels reduce
SILVERCEL™ Non-Adherent Dressing may help to control infection and minimises trauma with each dressing change.
Tough on infection. Easy on patients.
Silver makes it tough.
- Effective against a broad range of microorganisms in vitro70
- Stays strong for intact removal, even when wet70
- Suitable for infected, chronic and acute wounds70
Non-adherence makes it easy.
- Provides up to 75% lower adherence than the competition70
- Designed to reduce trauma to the wound bed during dressing changes70
- Unique, perforated design for free flow of exudate into the dressing70

Uniquely designed for easy removal
SILVERCEL™ Non-Adherent Dressing is designed to minimise dressing change trauma. Reapply when the secondary dressing has reached its absorbent capacity or whenever good wound care practice dictates that the dressing should be changed.
Step 1.
Gently remove the secondary dressing. Consistent with good wound care practice, always remove the dressing from the wound with gloved fingers or forceps.
Step 2.
Grip both outer layers of SILVERCEL™ Non-Adherent Dressing and gently remove from the wound bed. If the wound appears dry, saturate the dressing with normal saline solution prior to removal.
Step 3.
Irrigate the wound site according to local standard protocols.
Package insert
SILVERCEL™ Non-Adherent Hydro-Alginate Antimicrobial Dressing/Packing with Silver is a sterile, non-woven pad composed of a high G (guluronic acid) alginate, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and silver coated bres, laminated to a perforated, non-adherent ethylene methyl acrylate (EMA) wound contact layer. The unique composition of the dressing manages exudates in moderate to heavily exuding wounds, which creates a favourable moist wound healing
environment for effective wound management, and allows intact removal.
The silver fibres kill a broad spectrum of microorganisms associated with the bacterial colonization and infection of wounds. Odour reduction results from the antibacterial eect in the dressing.
Indications
SILVERCEL™ Non-Adherent Hydro-Alginate Antimicrobial Dressing is intended for use in the management of all moderate to heavily exuding partial and full-thickness chronic and acute wounds including: decubitus (pressure) ulcers, venous ulcers, diabetic ulcers, donor sites, traumatic and surgical wounds. As the product contains alginate it may assist in supporting the control of minor bleeding in superficial wounds. It is also suitable for use, under medical supervision, in the management of infected wounds, or wounds in which there is an increased risk of infection.
Contra-indications
SILVERCEL™ Non-Adherent Hydro-Alginate Antimicrobial Dressing is not indicated for use on the following:
- Patients with a known sensitivity to alginates, ethylene methyl acrylate (EMA) or silver.
- Surgical implantation.
- Pregnant or lactating women due to the absence of specific information.
Precautions
- SILVERCEL™ Non-Adherent Hydro-Alginate Antimicrobial Dressing is not intended to control heavy bleeding.
- As wound conditions improve and exudate levels decrease, it may be preferable to switch to a more appropriate dressing or moisten the dressing with normal saline solution prior to application.
- The dressing must be removed prior to patients undergoing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations.
- Avoid contact with electrodes or conductive gels during electronic measurements, e.g. electrocardiograms (ECG) and electroencephalograms (EEG).
Systemic antimicrobial therapy should be considered when wound infection is evident. SILVERCEL™ Non-Adherent Hydro-Alginate Antimicrobial Dressing may be used, under medical supervision, in conjunction with systemic antibiotics.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Site Preparation
- Debride when necessary and irrigate the wound site in accordance with standard protocols.
- Remove excess solution from surrounding skin.
Dressing Selection
Select a size of SILVERCEL™ Non-Adherent Hydro-Alginate Antimicrobial Dressing that is slightly larger than the wound.
Dressing Application
- Cut (using clean scissors) or fold the dressing to t the wound. Loosely pack deep wounds, ensuring the dressing does not overlap the wound margins. As wound conditions improve and exudate levels decrease, moisten the dressing with normal saline solution prior to application.
- Cover and secure SILVERCEL™ Non-Adherent Hydro-Alginate Antimicrobial Dressing with a non-occlusive secondary dressing such as one of the TIELLE* Hydropolymer Dressing range, as appropriate.
Dressing Change and Removal
- Dressing change frequency will depend on wound condition and the level of exudate. Initially it may be necessary to change the dressing every 24 hours.
- Reapply SILVERCEL™ Non-Adherent Hydro-Alginate Antimicrobial Dressing when the secondary dressing has reached its absorbent capacity or whenever good wound care practice dictates that the dressing should be changed.
- Gently remove the secondary dressing.
- Gently remove the dressing from the wound bed and discard. If the wound appears dry, saturate the dressing with sterile saline solution prior to removal.
- Irrigate the wound site prior to application of a new dressing.
Do not use if individual pack is damaged/opened.
The use by date of this product is printed on the packaging.
