PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Wound Balancing Matrix Protection and Growth
Overview
PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix promotes healthy tissue growth while providing antimicrobial protection.
Antimicrobial Protection
PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix protects the wound bed by controlling factors that can slow healing.
- Removes destructive elements and components in wound fluid to restore a more normal healing environment.
- Kills clinically relevant bacteria in the dressing to help maintain bacterial balance.
- Reduces bacterial growth, which may help reduce the risk of infection.
Cellular Growth
PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix promotes healthy tissue growth while providing antimicrobial protection.
- Collagen provides a biodegradable matrix for cellular invasion and capillary growth
- Creates an environment that promotes granulation tissue formation, epithelialisation and optimal wound healing
- Low level silver causes no harm to host cells in a simulated in vitro wound model
Antimicrobial Activity83
PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix provides an effective antibacterial barrier, as demonstrated by the in vitro reduction of clinically relevant common wound pathogens†83.
- In vitro data comparable to silver dressings on the market
- For continuous antimicrobial activity, reapply dressing daily
Cell Growth83
In vitro tests demonstrate that PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix works to simultaneously allow growth while delivering silver to the wound.
- Collagen provides a biodegradable matrix for cellular invasion and capillary growth
- Creates an environment that promotes granulation tissue formation, epithelialisation and optimal wound healing
- Low level silver delivery causes no harm to host cells in a simulated in vitro wound model
The right combination
The unique formulation of 55% collagen, 44% oxidized regenerated cellulose (ORC) and 1% silver-ORC delivers a balanced combination for protection and growth that is appropriate for a variety of wound types and conditions.
Choose the right amount of silver
Low levels of silver are ideal for contaminated or colonised wounds.
- Reduces bacterial growth
- Causes minimal impact on cells necessary to prepare the wound for closure, including:
- Fibroblasts
- Macrophages
High levels of silver may not be appropriate for contaminated or colonised wounds.
- Dressings with high levels of silver may result in:
- Harm to host cells
- Slow healing
Cell Viability
PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix demonstrates a high percentage of viable macrophage-like cells during in vitro testing when compared to other silver dressings.
In vitro testing with AQUACEL AG shows greater density of dead cells.
PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix shows a greater concentration of viable cells in vitro.
In vitro testing with SSD demonstrates greater concentration of non-viable cells.
Non-viable cells are stained purple, healthy cells are clear.
Use early
Use PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix early in your treatment as part of good ulcer care. Use PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix on infected or non-infected wounds - or wounds in which the presence of infection cannot be determined. 20% of all infected wounds exhibit no clinical signs of infection.8
Appropriate for any exudate level
Enhance the benefits of sharp debridement by using PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix to absorb destructive wound fluid components and control bacteria, promoting the biobalance necessary for wound healing.
Protection
PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix protects the wound bed by eliminating factors that can slow healing.
- Removes destructive elements and components in wound fluid to restore a more normal healing environment
- Kills clinically relevant bacteria in the dressing to help maintain bacterial balance
- Reduces bacterial growth, which may help reduce the risk of infection

How to use
Preparation
- Prepare the wound per you standard wound care protocol and debride when necessary.
- PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix may be used when visible signs of infection are present in the wound area only when proper medical treatment addresses the underlying cause. PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix is not intended to be a substitute for appropriate treatment of infection
- Hydrate PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix with saline for wounds with low or no exudate.
Application
- Apply directly to wound, covering the entire wound bed.
- PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix forms a gel on contact with exudate or through saline hydration.
- In order to maintain a moist wound environment, PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix must be covered with a semi-occlusive dressing.
Dressing Change and Removal
- It is not necessary to remove any residual PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix during dressing changes as it will be naturally absorbed into the body over time
- Reapply up to every 72 hours depending on the amount of exudate.

Product description
PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix is a topically applied interactive wound therapy. The product is a sterile, freeze dried, composite of oxidised regenerated cellulose (ORC), collagen and silver-ORC, (a compound of Silver and ORC). In the presence of exudate the PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix transforms into a soft and conformable, biodegradable gel, this allows contact with all areas of the wound. Saline or Ringer's solution should be used to hydrate PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix on dry wounds.
PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix modulates and re-balances the wound environment by the unique combination of:
- binding and inactivation of proteases (i.e. matrix metallo proteases, elastase and plasmin) which have been shown to be detrimental in excess in chronic wounds.
- binding and protection of naturally occurring growth factors against degradation by these excess proteases.
These naturally occurring, protected, growth factors are released back into the wound, while the detrimental proteases remain inactive upon bio-degradation of the PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix.
Silver is a broad spectrum antimicrobial, which has been shown to be effective against wound pathogens.
PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix has been shown to proliferate human dermal fibroblasts in vitro, as well as demonstrating free radical scavenging properties and anti inflammatory activity in laboratory tests.

Directions for use
Storage
PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix should be stored away from direct light. Overexposure to light may cause some discolouration, however this does not impact product performance.
Site Preparation
Before treatment, dry necrotic tissue must first be removed by surgical, enzymatic or autolytic debridement.
Application
- For optimal effect, apply PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix directly to the whole wound bed.
- For a wound with low or no exudate apply PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix and hydrate with saline or Ringer's solution. This will initiate the gel forming process.
- After hydration the PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix gel will intimately contact the wound.
- The biodegradable gel is naturally absorbed over time.
- PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix must be covered with either gauze, a non-adhering or a hydropolymer dressing in order to maintain a moist wound healing environment.
- After initial treatment, re-treat the wound with PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix up to every 72 hours depending upon the amount of exudate. It is not necessary to remove any residual PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix.
- For heavily exuding or infected wounds it may be necessary to retreat the wound with PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix every 24 hours.
