ACTISORB™ Silver 220 clinically proven against bacteria & malodour
Overview
ACTISORB™ Silver 220 dressings create a favourable environment for effective wound healing, supported by over 20 years of proven clinical efficacy. The silver impregnation combats wound micro-organisms in the dressing, which reduces the bacterial colonisation of the wound and inhibits infection.
ACTISORB™ Silver 220 dressing offers superior wound cleansing and malodour reduction76. It is clinically proven to reduce pain77 and because of its purely physical wound cleansing principle there is no fear of side effects or the development of resistance such as can occur when using antibiotics78.
By eliminating offensive odours and reducing infection ACTISORB™ Silver 220 dressing improves the quality of life for the patient and nursing personnel.
Proven for over 20 years of clinical use, ACTISORB™ Silver 220 goes above and beyond delivering reliable, effective and safe wound cleaning and deodourising.
How ACTISORB™ Silver 220 Dressing works
ACTISORB™ Silver 220 is a unique activated charcoal dressing6 .ACTISORB™ Silver 220 is impregnated with silver, a powerful wound antimicrobial.
UNIQUE TRIPLE ACTION
A. ACTISORB™ Silver 220
B. Wound bed with bacteria and odour particles
Step 1: Activated charcoal traps bacteria
Step 2: Silver kills bacteria
Step 3: Activated charcoal adsorbs bacterial toxins and odour
- Activated charcoal traps bacteria in the dressing, moving them out of the wound bed
- Silver in the dressing effectively kills bacteria30
- Bacterial toxins (which are known to impair wound healing) are adsorbed by activated charcoal24
- Activated charcoal also adsorbs odour particles, reducing wound odour
- ACTISORB™ Silver 220 can remain in situ for up to 7 days

How to use
ACTISORB™ Silver 220 is a primary dressing which has been shown to provide consistent adsorption of bacteria when wet or dry.7
Moisten: If extra conformability required, moisten with sterile water or saline.
Apply: To prevent adherence, use in combination with a non-adherent dressing. This will not affect the unique triple action of ACTISORB™ Silver 220. It is important that dressing is not impaired by excess ointment or grease of the contact layer.
Cover: Secure with appropriate secondary dressing according to exudate levels.
Wear time: ACTISORB™ Silver 220 can remain in place for up to 7 days, dependent on the level of exudate, while the secondary absorbent dressing should be changed as required.

Preparation
Dry, necrotic tissue must first be removed by surgical, enzymatic or autolytic debridement. The wound should be cleansed by irrigation with sterile saline solution or water. Prior to application, ACTISORB™ Silver 220 dressing can be impregnated with saline solution or sterile water.
Application
Key to graphics:
- The adsorptive properties of the dressing are most fully utilised when ACTISORB™ Silver 220 dressing makes direct contact with the wound. Either side of ACTISORB™ Silver 220 dressing can be placed next to the wound site.
- The outer nylon surface enables removal from the majority of wounds without adherence or trauma. If required, ACTISORB™ Silver 220 dressing can be placed on top of a non-adherent wound contact layer. In this case it is important to ensure that the mechanism of action of ACTISORB™ Silver 220 dressing is not impaired by excess ointment or grease of the contact layer.
- ACTISORB™ Silver 220 dressing can be easily packed into deep wounds.
Covering and securing
Depending on the level of exudate, an absorbent secondary dressing may be placed on top of ACTISORB™ Silver 220 dressing.
Fix the dressing in place in a manner appropriate for the indication. - see example image below
Changing
ACTISORB™ Silver 220 Antimicrobial Binding Dressing can remain in situ up to 7 days, dependent on the level of exudate, while the secondary absorbent dressing is changed as required. Initially it may be necessary to change ACTISORB™ Silver 220 Dressing every 24 hours to ensure optimal dressing performance - see example images below.
Package insert
ACTISORB™ Silver 220 Activated Charcoal Dressing with Silver is a dressing composed of pure activated carbon impregnated with silver (33 μg/cm²). The dressing creates a favourable environment for effective wound healing by binding and immobilising micro-organisms which contaminate and infect wounds. The silver impregnation combats wound micro-organisms in the dressing, which reduces the bacterial colonisation of the wound and inhibits infection. ACTISORB™ Silver 220 dressing is tolerated very well and because of its purely physical wound cleansing principle there is no fear of side effects or the development of resistance such as can occur when using antibiotics.
